Position Overview

The Elected Member of Energy is vital to Zettahash DAO's success, ensuring its competitiveness and financial stability in the dynamic energy landscape. This position aligns Zettahash's energy strategies with broader sustainability initiatives and economic objectives. The EM achieves this by effectively managing the energy portfolio, optimizing operations and energy usage, reducing costs, and generating revenue through various energy markets, all in alignment with ZH DAO's overall mining objectives.

Role and Responsibilities

Energy Portfolio Management

  • Oversee Zettahash's energy portfolio to ensure flexibility, risk aversion, and maximizing returns through sound energy procurement strategies.
  • Maintain consistent, reliable, low-cost energy pricing across Zettahash's mining facilities to contribute to financial stability and competitiveness.
  • Oversee the strategic management and performance of an Energy Optimization Program.

Strategic Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement strategies for Bitcoin mining in various energy markets, focusing on cost reduction methods such as participation in ancillary service programs, transacting on wholesale electricity markets, and building strategies around Zettahash’s Bitcoin mining load profile.
  • Ensure that Zettahash's facilities are operated efficiently to meet energy strategy expectations and maintain uninterrupted, cost-effective mining operations.
  • Coordinate with mining operations teams to manage curtailment events, grid-dispatch, and other activities to optimize energy usage and reduce costs.

Market Analysis and Facility Evaluation

  • Access low-cost electricity: Identify and assess potential markets, facilities, substations, and other resources concerning mining operations.
  • Evaluate and verify prospective Zettahash mining facilities by assessing energy bills, voltage, and capacity agreements with various electric utilities.
  • Identify opportunities for specific energy-saving measures in buildings leveraging energy consumption, energy cost, equipment, and capital planning data.

Operational Excellence and Sustainability

  • Maintain a low-cost, reliable, and stable energy supply to support the profitability and sustainability of Zettahash's mining operations.
  • Utilize Bitcoin mining's unique capabilities as a flexible load resource to create value and optimize energy usage.
  • Manage Zettahash energy stack comprehensively, from day-to-day grid operations to site development and origination, to ensure long-term success in the energy sector.

Energy Efficiency and Cost Management

  • Generating revenue through ancillary service markets by leveraging Zettahash's unique position in the energy sector.
  • Ensure profitability through strategic and operational management, focusing on cost reduction and revenue generation.
  • Maintain the lowest industry hashcost by employing efficient energy procurement strategies.
  • Develops energy savings calculations based on specific measures or broad portfolio efficiency estimates for business case development and planning.

Monitoring and Analysis

  • Use quantitative energy data analysis to identify and prioritize energy savings project opportunities.
  • Performs site visits and engages with the local team to understand building operations, identify potential opportunities, and implement and track energy-saving challenges and initiatives.
  • Create annual energy budget forecasting that ensures the integrity of the energy data validation process.

Collaboration and Contract Review

  • The EM of Energy collaborates closely with the EM of Mining to align the overall energy direction and strategy with Zettahash DAO's mining objectives.
  • Negotiate and review Power Purchase Agreements and other contracts for hosting and mining, energy procurement, and management to ensure they support ZH DAO's energy needs, budgets, and financial goals.
